Melaka to Shine on Global Stage with WTD and WTC 2025, Say Tourism Leaders
AYER KEROH, June 8 – Melaka’s status as a world-class tourism destination is set to rise significantly with the upcoming hosting of two major international events in 2025 — World Tourism Day 2025 (WTD2025) and the World Tourism Conference 2025 (WTC2025), both scheduled for September.
Industry players are confident these prestigious events will further cement Melaka’s position on the global tourism map. According to Goh Hock Gin, Chairman of the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) Melaka Chapter, such events carry significant impact in promoting the state as a UNESCO World Heritage City.
“Melaka, being a UNESCO heritage city, truly welcomes events of this magnitude. They not only help promote the state internationally but also reaffirm Melaka’s place on the world map,” Goh said in an interview with Melaka Hari Ini.
In preparation for the global spotlight, MATTA will soon organize a special seminar aimed at equipping its members with the knowledge and readiness to provide top-tier services during the events.
“Through this seminar, we hope our members will be well-prepared and able to deliver excellent services to welcome global tourism delegates and visitors,” he added.
Meanwhile, President of the Melaka Tourism Association (MTA), Madelina Kuah, expressed her association’s full commitment to supporting the State Government’s efforts to elevate Melaka’s global standing.
“Our hope is to work closely with the State Government to achieve comprehensive international recognition,” said Madelina.
She also urged regular engagement between the WTD2025 and WTC2025 organizing secretariats and local tourism players, including NGOs.
“We have many experienced groups and NGOs in Melaka. We hope they will be given the opportunity to participate in the overall planning process, including through dialogue sessions and seminars,” she emphasized.
Both WTD2025 and WTC2025 are expected to draw global delegates, further boosting Melaka’s visibility and reaffirming its unique cultural and historical appeal to international audiences.
