TUARAN, June 9 \u2013 Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) is fully prepared to face the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN), said its Chairman and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.<\/p>\n
Speaking after officiating the Aidiladha Qurban Ceremony at the Tuaran District Police Headquarters today, Hajiji stated that GRS has already conducted a series of training sessions at the grassroots level in all constituencies to ensure its election machinery is in top form.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s clear that GRS is ready. We\u2019ve established our election machinery and held several training programmes across the constituencies to strengthen our groundwork,\u201d he told reporters.<\/p>\n
However, Hajiji added that seat allocations among coalition parties have not yet been discussed.<\/p>\n
Also present at the event were Sabah Minister of Rural Development Datuk Jahid Jahim, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, and Tuaran District Police Chief Supt Noraidin Ag Maidin.<\/p>\n
The Sabah State Assembly\u2019s five-year term is set to expire automatically on November 11, 2025, following its first sitting and official opening by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Juhar Mahiruddin on November 12, 2020, after the 16th state election. This automatic dissolution will pave the way for the 17th Sabah state polls.<\/p>\n
Open to Cooperation with Barisan Nasional
\nCommenting on potential cooperation with Barisan Nasional (BN) for the upcoming election, Hajiji said GRS remains open to discussions with BN leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe last time I met BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was before Ramadan. We discussed several political matters, but as of now, there has been no further discussion regarding cooperation,\u201d Hajiji revealed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no issues with meeting him again. I respect all our colleagues, especially the BN chairman. We are open to dialogue.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, he clarified that as GRS Chairman, any decision involving party cooperation or election strategies must first be discussed and approved by the GRS Supreme Council before being finalized.<\/p>\n
