KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 \u2013 The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has denied claims that political activist Fahmi Reza is subject to a travel ban, clarifying instead that his name is merely listed under an internal movement monitoring system.<\/p>\n
In an official statement issued Sunday, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said the PDRM is aware of recent media reports and public reaction regarding the alleged travel restrictions imposed on Mohd Fahmi Reza Mohd Zarin, better known as Fahmi Reza.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is no official travel ban against Fahmi Reza at this time,\u201d Razarudin affirmed.<\/p>\n
\u201cHowever, his name has been placed on a movement monitoring list due to an ongoing police investigation. This is a standard internal procedure and does not constitute a formal restriction.\u201d<\/p>\n
He clarified that the monitoring list is used purely for internal record-keeping and reference purposes, and does not equate to a ban on travel.<\/p>\n
Razarudin acknowledged that confusion arose during an immigration check at the country’s exit point recently, which mistakenly triggered a travel restriction alert.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis situation is being reviewed, and appropriate steps will be taken to improve current procedures and prevent similar errors,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The IGP also reiterated PDRM\u2019s commitment to upholding the right to freedom of movement for all Malaysians, adding that the individual in question is free to travel in and out of the country as usual \u2014 subject to Immigration Department regulations and applicable laws.<\/p>\n
