Amirudin Denies Resignation from Sungai Tua State Seat
SHAH ALAM, June 9 – Selangor Menteri Besar and PKR Vice President Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has firmly denied speculation that he will vacate the Sungai Tua state seat, which he won in the 2023 Selangor State Election.
Describing the rumours as “pure imagination and baseless,” Amirudin, who also serves as Selangor Pakatan Harapan (PH) Chairman, said that vacating a seat to make way for another individual is not a straightforward process.
“It’s not that simple — such a move would require serious consideration and due process,” he told reporters during the E-Bike Handover Ceremony to Selangor Police at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters today.
His remarks come in response to claims that the Sungai Tua state assembly seat would be vacated to pave the way for a by-election, allegedly to allow Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, to contest under the PKR banner.
Last Friday, Tengku Zafrul announced his resignation from UMNO and expressed his intention to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), fueling speculation about his possible entry into the state legislative assembly.
Amirudin reiterated that any decision involving the vacating of a legislative seat must be made with careful deliberation and cannot be taken lightly.
